2. There were small markets in all centers of the camp, but the largest by far was the center one which was near the front gate of the camp. Other than food and other goods, such as flashlight batteries, clothing and cooking items, cassette tapes, ice creams, , live chickens etc was available, for those who had money.

3. As a majority of the families in camp had no money, the markets around camp were not busy as one would see in a village or town market normally.

4. Most produce or animals for sale were brought in by Thai farmers.

5. Thai vendors were allowed into camp to sell produce, for a fee.

6. Some Hmong bought goods from the Thais outside the camps and resold them in the small markets around camp

7. Boy selling kerosene (blue bags). Refugees who had money could purchase and use them to see at night as there was no electricity in their homes.

8. Just outside the front gate of the camp there was a Thai market where local villagers could sell vegetables, bamboo, and make a phone available (at great cost) for refugees to call relatives in the US and other third countries.

9. Eventually a Thai post office was installed due to the huge volume of letters and tape cassettes being mailed to and from camp as relatives in third countries corresponded with families in camp.
